Letter from the outgoing President
Dear Fellow Juneau Mountain Bikers,
I am sad to say that I will be stepping down as President of the Juneau Mountain Bike Alliance this April when I relocate to the Pacific Northwest. I started with the mountain bike club back in 2014 when we were a branch off of the Juneau Freewheelers and fundraising for the Eaglecrest Flow Trail. Since then, we have come a long way in creating our own non-profit known as Juneau Mountain Bike Alliance. I am so thankful to have been part of the group as Race Director, and then moving into the role as President for the last few years.
Juneau is a great community and it has been really exciting to see the mountain bike scene grow and gain momentum each year. With the help of local businesses and our great relationships with CBJ Parks and Recreation, the Forest Service, and Eaglecrest Ski Area we have been able to provide Juneau with group rides, race events, a new trail, and social gatherings. Our current project, the Skills Park in Cope Park, really excites me and I look forward to seeing that completed and hope to stay abreast of its progression.
To all the amazing Ladies riding bikes and shredding trails, thank you! One of my goals as President was to bring the Lady riders of Juneau together to meet, ride, and encourage each-other while having fun. It has been inspiring to be a part of, and I know that it will continue to grow. I started leading ladies rides three or four years ago, and while it was slow growing, this last summer with the help of Ride Leader Alix Pierce we were able to lead group rides twice a month. We had a lot of rainy days, but the Ladies showed up ready to ride and were always willing to get after it. You kept me inspired and I would like to thank each of you for joining me on the trail! The Ladies rides will continue this Summer with Alix returning to lead once a month, as well as a new ride leader who we will announce soon. If you’re interested in leading a Ladies or Group Trail ride, please let me know. The more the better!
I would like to thank you all for letting me be a part of such a great community and for joining us at JMBA events, rides, fundraisers, volunteering your time and having a good time with us! To my fellow Board Members, thank you all for your hard work and dedication to growing mountain biking in Juneau. JMBA wouldn’t be here without you and I know I’ll be leaving it in good hands.
